Here are some drawings of our first session with Burleque Dancer Violetta Beretta. You can find out more about her on Cherry Blossom Cabaret's website.

Change of Expression

I re-did my story board biased on these drawings:

ChangeBoard Idea WEB

So I'm going for 3 diff shots in this story:

Shot 1:
Sindi walks in (Grumpy because she's at work); the toolbox handle flips up on it's own
Sindi walks up to toolbox; toolbox snaps open up on their own
Sindi is shocked! Did she really just see that?

Shot 2:
Sindi contemplates the box, disbelieving what just happened
Sindi is curious, gently pokes the lid of the box
The box opens up and REALLY loud screaming noise comes out
startling Sindi.
The sound dies down.

Shot 3:

Sindi is dazed, then she looks inside the tool box
She sees the tool box is full of make up instead of tools
Sindi is stoaked!

ChangeBoard 02 WEB

Anyway these are 3 different emotion changes to portray

So I finished a rough of the second shot - change from curious to shocked. I figure I'd upload this for now to show progress.

I have keyframed the other two, and have the box movement for shot 01. I'm working on those tonight.

Shot 2 ROUGH - quicktime move

And since I'm not sure if I handled that UH SFTP thing correctly - I had to get my husband to help me with it because I'm a retard with technical crap like that. So here's a youtube backup:

Change of Expression - story board

Ok now this is more polished & simpler to do. This will end up being very Ren & Stimpy-esqe. I loved that show!

ChangeBoard 01

Change of Expression; rough

I'm going to re-draw this one more time to change a few things, like the angle of the shot in the first few moments or maybe the way Sindi enters the scene to make it more interesting.

Why we need health care reform; please read

My father got very sick in 1997 with Encephalitis of the brain, our family almost went bankrupt because of the medical bills. He always worked VERY hard to support us, working long days as a construction worker, and working weekends making surfboards to maintain his true passion. He is the most hard working person I know, and he is where I got my own work ethic.

When my father got sick I was a senior in High School, I was the art teachers favorite and was being groomed for great possibilities, I wanted so badly to go to Cal Arts or the San Francisco Academy of Arts. We were fully covered by medical insurance through my father's construction job, at least we thought.

Once my dad got deathly ill, they ditched us and would not cover our expenses. My mom had to spend practically all of our savings, which was to help me attend the schools I wanted to go to.

It was fortunate that my father did recover. I didn't care at the time that we had no money for my college education, because I was so grateful that my father was well again, which is VERY rare for that Disease. I still think that he got better out of sheer willpower.

It was unfortunate that I could not get the best college education I could have at the time, because our medical insurance DID NOT support my family in our greatest time of need.

When I think back on it, I now realize how very unfair the whole situation was. PLEASE hold insurance companies accountable, we give them so much of our income, only to loose greatly in the end. It hurt not to have the money to follow my dreams, but it was a sacrifice that was necessary at the time.

Look at me now, here I'm 30 years old and I'm FINALLY getting the quality education I have always dreamed of. I've done quality graphic design work for every major newspaper in the state, I have WORKED my ass off for 7 years only with an Associates Degree. I have been given a great opportunity to re-invent myself as an animator again. I'm getting my second chance. But just imagine where I would have been if my college funds were there for me when I graduated in 1997!

For all those of you who doubt we need health care reform, think about my family's story, really think about it.  Put yourself in my shoes. Feel how that feels. In this the supposed greatest country on earth, where one man worked so hard to support his family on a carpenter' salary. Then REALLY review the full plan for Health Care reform, you will see that all the bullshit that makes you think Heath Care reform is a bad thing for America from the town halls and pundits on FOX news is not even mentioned.

See President Obama's full plan for health care reform, get the facts. And ask your representatives to support it.

Rough storyboard idea

So this idea is to a piece of music by the band TOOL. It's kinda old, it's called Disgustipated off of their album Undertow. It tells a story about a carrot harvest on a farm, which is ultimately reflecting on the cycle of life.

This is the song on Youtube - but it's placed with clips from the movie "City of Lost Children" (Which is an awesome movie BTW) but it's best minimize your browser and just listen to it because these visuals are distracting.

Now I dunno how I'm going to convince TOOL to let me use their song but the visuals for it just floated into my head when it came on my car stereo. I think it illustrates what they were trying to say very well in a funny dementedly cute cartoon way. Maybe they will think it is super awesome idea and will let me do it.

The main character is a dog biased on my dog Wolfy, who died last Christmas, she lived at my parents house in Kilauea Kauai. She had lived a long life, but I was of course sad I didn't get to say goodbye.

When I drew these storyboards I had Wolfy and my bunny Shadow in mind as models. The dog talks to the "Angel" who is actually the moon and clouds talking.

When I went home for labor day weekend I realized Wolfy is buried in the pretty part of the yard where she can see the moon rise. I think that's Wolfy's way of telling me to animate this story...

This is the story outline: Dog has dream, that he's lifted up on high, an angel shows the dog the Carrots are crying because harvest day is their holocaust. The dog wakes up and preaches to the nearby sheep saying the Carrots have a soul too! The bunnies pop up out of the forest and start feasting on the carrots. A light comes on in the farmhouse, the shadow of the farmer looms in a doorframe with a raised rifle. He shoots at the bunnies repeatedly. The dog sneaks up on the farmer... as he raises his rifle to kill one more bunny, and attacks him. We pan out into the quiet night sky...

Run Cycle

Yey, this was fun! Gee!

It was helpful my husband was watching college football all day on TV. Seeing all those players running around got my brain working, also the crowd cheering helped too. I was pretending they were cheering for my little character, that put me in a good mood.

I did 12 drawings total for this instead of 10. I was looking at a run cycle in the animators survival kit and I forgot that i only had to do 10 drawings for 24 FPS for this assignment, maybe this is a happy accident? ;D

I think the counts are just different, like when people dance to or play music we count in 8’s  1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8; 2-2-3-4-5-6-7-8; 3-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 etc.

Some musicians like to insert or recognize the “AND” which is like a half beat or breath between measures:

1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 AND 2-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 AND 3-2-3-4-5-6-7-8, etc.

I’ve had choreographers come up with dances that incorporate the “AND” as a signal for a strong movement in a dance, which proves to be tricky to pull off but makes for more dynamic movement to music. As a dancer I have a love/hate relationship for those tricky “AND”s.

So I’m guessing it added a little extra half beat or so to the run cycle … am I right? I’ve been looking at this all afternoon/evening so I’ll just look at it again in the AM. If I find anything wrong with it I’ll fix and repost before class on Wednesday.

Eh well here it is anyhoo:

Run Cycle Study

Now to draw this type of run on animation paper, and make a few adjustments while doing that. I will be able to use the first keyframe for the end pose so that'll help the accuracy of the proportions and movement. I noticed the leg and arm positions are slightly different in this study from drawing 1 & 13. The elbow and torso aren't using the same lines... anyhoo that will be fixed.

And these are the two people that are the reason I haven't been animating for 7 years ... they shall rename nameless. Making them into characters after I came home this evening was very therapeutic.

LOL they are funny looking. Hehehe.

FuckinCharactersWEB I'm going do do Bush and Cheney next ... maybe I'll be able to find something useful out of the last 8 years. LOL.

Heads!!!
